Program Note
Sterling is a scientist who creates a serum for immortality called “Divinity”. His son, Jaxxon, has been producing it for the masses, with a noticeable critical side effect; women’s inability to procreate. Two alien brothers attempt to kidnap him, causing him to have a massive drug overdose instead of killing him, and it turns him into an overtly sexual creature. Meanwhile, a clan of female warriors locate a rare fertile woman and fight to rescue her.
Backed by Steven Soderbergh, Eddie Alcazar’s Divinity is his latest attempt at inventive storytelling, with the 16mm B&W look, stop-motion animation, and a jarring music score. Amazing practical makeup is also evident, especially in the changing of Jaxxon, played by Stephen Dorff, as you’ve never seen him before. Also starring Bella Thorne as Ziva, the leader of the stunning female clan, this film is not for everyone, but if you are willing to accept its wild premise, the reward will come in the end.
