Program Note
This film is based on a shocking case of family mutilation and murder that took place in 2013. Henry commits the horrific crime of murdering his friend Angus. In court, veteran lawyers Wilson and Carrie, in defending them, insist that they are all innocent, while the prosecutor, Alan, insists that the murders were a calculated act for money. To make matters worse, when Angus begins to refute all the charges, the defendants play a game of “genius” and “fool” in the courtroom, and the truth becomes even more elusive, with the debate among the nine jurors becomes a whirlwind of right and wrong. Directed by Philip Yung, who won the Best Film Award at BIFAN 2015 for Port of Call, which is also about a dismemberment and murder, has won many awards, including the Golden Horse Awards and the Hong kong Film Awards. Director Ho Cheuk Tin, who made his start of film career with Port of Call, and Yeung Wai Lun and Mak Pui Tung, who have been acting mainly in theatre for a long time, have shown a combination of excellent direction and amazing acting.
