Program Note
Taking inspiration from the folklore of a rat that consumes human fingernails, and then transforms into the image of the person they belonged to, the narrative delivers a disturbing blow to traditional family relationships, which persist as a vice-like habit, even in the 21st century. A wife, unable to conceive, endures her mother-in-law’s disdain and is constantly compared to and pitted against the rat wife, who suddenly appears. The striking use of red color and rhythmic direction employing traditional music is captivating. (SONG Eunji)
