Program Note
Set in crime-ridden Prague in the year 2041, Restore Point portrays a series of murder cases related to the “Restore Point technology”, which recreates the lives of people who died in ways other than natural causes. Young and determined detective, Emma, is assigned to the case, and as she delves into the investigation, she gets closer to unraveling the conspiracy surrounding the Restoration Project.
This ambitious film captures the current trend of genre films in the Czech film industry. With the backdrop of a transformed Prague, depicted as a cold and metallic space, Restore Point skillfully combines the plot and action of a crime noir with imaginative science fiction elements, demonstrating a directorial prowess that exceeds expectations for a debut film. Directed by Robert Hloz, who studied at the Hanyang University Department of Film in Korea and FMK UTB in Zlín, Restore Point was selected as a project in the 2017 BIFAN NAFF It Project, showcasing his talent and potential.
