Born in Niigata, in 1992. After graduating from high school, Uchiyama entered Bunka Fashion College. Although he began his career as a stylist while in school, he got interested in films and later studied film under director Nakano Ryota. In 2016, he made his directorial debut with Vanitas, which won the PFF Audience Award. His other works include music videos for King Gnu and the middle-length film Blue Forest(2018). Sasaki in My Mind is his first feature film.
