Program Note

Jiwon, a motivated new police officer, is strangely bothered after meeting Osun, a social worker. On a hot summer day, a kidnapper sends a message saying, ‘If you want to save the kidnapped child, donate money to the welfare center.’ The incident becomes a national concern as the media report it. Somehow, Jiwon doubts the link between the case and Osun.

Director Seo Eunyoung's Go Back asks grave questions about the link between child abuse and violence concealed under the name of family, wounds that cannot be easily cured, assailants and victims, crime and punishment. Park Haseon plays Osun vividly, revealing copious internal scars but still helping others who are being hurt. In addition to Park Haseon, the other actors and the director's sincere production add depth and lingering imagery to the film. In a world stained with violence and hurt, when the heartfelt truth of someone sincerely concerned is conveyed, we can move forward and shed the dark shadows and chains of the heart. (Mo Eun-young)
