Program Note

Mina is a teenage undead ghoul cursed to haunt her childhood home in the woods, killing and devouring those entering it. She discovers Alex, a victim kidnapped and blinded by the man she just devoured, and begins to feel compassion towards the boy.

Program Note

Mina is a young ghoul living in the woods known as The Devils Den, a place the locals avoid. When a stranger Joseph kills the gas attendant and comes into The Devils Den, he becomes her next devouring victim. Mina’s world is rocked however, when she comes upon Alex, a teenage boy who was kidnapped, abused and blinded by Joseph. She helps him hide out in the forest as she struggles with sudden empathy that may have greater effect on her in the end. The Dark is a debut feature of Justin P. Lange, focusing mainly on the emotional bond between two teens a la Let the Right One In. They are connected through trauma caused by cruel and murderous adults in their lives and such bonding makes ghoulish Mina to feel the innocence and humanness again, hopefully undoing the demonic veil that controls her life. The Dark is an ingenious re-invention of zombie genre, an atmospheric tale making Mr. Lange a talent to be reckoned with. (Jongsuk Thomas NAM)
