Álex DE LA IGLESIA: El Maestro Cineasta Fantastico

For aficionados of Spanish-language genre films, the name Alex de la Iglesia is something of a legend. Since his ‘assault on senses’ with The Day of the Beast(1995), Mr. DE LA IGLESIA has demonstrated his explosive directing style and a gift for ghoulish humor in his films, while winning countless Goya Awards (Spanish equivalent of The Oscars), which led to a special term ‘the popular auteur’ being coined just for him by numerous film professionals and scholars alike. BIFAN is proud to present several of his landmark films, including previously mentioned titles, in addition to Common Wealth, 800 Bullets, The Perfect Crime, The Last Circus, Witching and Bitching and his latest, The Bar. Also being screened on a big screen for the first time in Korea are his first-ever short film Mirindas Asesinas and his made-for-TV movie Films to Keep You Awake: The Baby’s Room, as well as a commemorative documentary on the 20th anniversary of The Day of the Beast, Heirs of the Beast.
