Program Note

In 1931, young and energetic Emilia is sent to a convent by her father. Although the convent feels suffocating at first, Emilia gradually becomes accustomed to life there. However, she begins witnessing supernatural powers among the mentally ill and the adults at the convent. As strange events unfold, she gets closer to a secret hidden deep within the convent. Tamae Garateguy, known for her bold reinterpretations of genre films, with works like She Wolf (2013), continues her exploration in her latest film, AUXILIO - The Power of Sin. Set in early 20th-century Argentina, the film skillfully weaves elements of Nunsploitation and the occult through a feminist lens, creating an ambitious plot. In the climax of the film when the secrets of the convent, hidden romance, and desire are unveiled, and the suppressed beings therein unfold into a bloody spectacle and a grand scene of retaliation.
