Ghost of Mae Nak

Mark Duffield

Thailand2005 102min 35mm Color

Synopsis

Mak and Nak are beautiful newly weds. As the couple buys a gloomy and old house from a sleezy realtor, a dark cloud is cast over this naive couple's happiness. At first, they thought that cleaning and painting the house nicely would solve their problems, but they wind up encountering a ghost. Mae Nak is Thai's legendary woman ghost with a strong grudge. Although the ghost helps the couple sort out their problems with the house and robbery, they also owe as much as they received to the ghost.

Diretor

Mark Duffield

British writer/director Mark Duffield came up with the idea for the film after learning about the legend of Mae Nak Phrakanong from the film NANG NAK. After extensive research, he wrote an original screenplay for GHOST OF MAE NAK in English, which was then translated into Thai. He has worked for over ten years as a cinematographer on several 35mm independent feature films, including BUTTERFLY MAN, shot on location in Thailand for which he won a Best Cinematography Award at the 2003 Slamdunk Film Festival in the USA. GHOST OF MAE NAK is his debut feature film as writer/director.
