Synopsis

Gambir, a young, handsome successful sculpter, leads a life without any complaint. His exhibition never fails and every piece of his works scores high bid at market. His marriage with a beautiful wife Talyda also is a golden one that everyone wishes to have. Apart from the surface of his life, however, his life is full of dark secret, especially in his artistic process. Pressures of his wife and mother on baby make him more nervous. A sudden message from unknown sender pushes him to discover secrets of his life that are even hidden to him. Led by the message, he ends up at a secret club of people watching special TV shows of all kinds of perversion, which are all real.
Forbidden Door is a new thrilling horror by Joko Anwar, a prominent talent in Indonesian cinema, who presented Kala as closing film at PiFan in 2007. Based on a solid work of scriptwriting, the film assures Anwar"s talent to make a textbook case of horror film that can appeal worldwide level. From the opening credit reminding classic Saul Bass" works, the film"s well structured narrative and deliberate production show high level of sophistication. It"s no doubt that Anwar proves his multi-talents of writing, directing and even acting in this gem-like work. (Jin PARK)

Born in Indonesia in 1976. He has been enjoying commercial and critical success as writer and director. The Forbidden Door (2009) won the Best Film at the 2009 BIFAN, and Satan’s Slaves (2017) is the highest grossing horror film of all time in Indonesia.
