Program Note

Fresh out of school, Sonia, Max, and Henry hide in the catacombs, unaware of the existence of Bunker 717, a hidden reminder of the Nazi occupation. The adventure starts as a joke, but soon they encounter unexpected characters and find themselves in strange surroundings. But that’s just the beginning. Now they have to escape from the reanimated beings hidden deep in the earth. Actor and director Grégory Beghin’s second feature film Deep Fear is a comedy action-horror that integrates Nazi zombies with teen survival-horror set in a crypt. The first half is an action-comedy, but with the appearance of the Nazi zombies, the adrenaline level rises as it morphs into a gore-action horror with severed body parts and gallons of blood. The director skillfully uses various authentic horror styles, raising expectations for his next film. The retro feel in the intro is also quite enjoyable. (Jin PARK)
