Program Note

In Caracas, Venezuela, an outbreak of rabies starts in an illegal drug dealer’s warehouse and spreads across the country in no time. Doctor Adam heads for the city to the International Medical Research Institute to develop a cure, but then he discovers his young child staying with his parents in a remote mountain village is in danger. Infection, a dystopian zombie horror action road movie, progresses the story in a similar way to other films exploring pandemics and anomie, portraying the war against the virus with tension, which has now become our norm. Completed through Flavio Pedota’s determination, the film shows a high level of production quality considering it as an independent production. Due to the critical views on former president Chávez and Venezuela’s social and political situation causing an economic crisis, Infection was banned in its own country. (Jin PARK)
