Program Note

“Aren’t you happy because you chose to follow your dream?” People often tell this to those who choose their dreams instead of their reality. The main characters in the rock ary Turn It Up To 11 are also quite familiar with hearing this story. So am I really happy? Don’t be ridiculous, they say, laughing. But I’m happy to have rock and roll. The film tells the story of a live club called ‘Ruby Records’ located in the middle of the Incheon Motel Village and the band ‘Galaxy Express’ and ‘Tabacco Juice’ which started off by the members who felt sorry for each other’s miserable lives. A band that wants to rule the universe with rock and roll, and a band that seems more interested in having fun, seems so different, but they are the ones who look happiest when the crowd responds and cheer to their music. Director Baek Seung-hwa, who was once the drummer of Tabacco Juice, is now more famous for his films like Queen of Walking and Omok Girl but Turn It Up To 11 is a story of true rock musicians.
