Program Note

This film is based on a bestseller¡¸ The Changeover: A Supernatural Romance¡¹(1984) by Margaret Mahy. Laura(Erana James) who lost her father to an earthquake lived on looking after her mother and younger brother. One day, she had a feeling that her younger brother Jacko(Benji Purchase) was in danger, and a mysterious man(Timothy Spall) appeared and left a strange stamp on the back of Jacko’s hand. Since that day, Jacko’s health got noticeably worse, and she decides to risk her life and become a witch believing it is all an act of the Devil. Based on the supernatural subject of curse and magic, this film blends fantasy, family drama and late teen romance into one. The background filmed in New Zealand heightens the mysterious atmosphere with gloomy and unstable images and adds fun with uniquely different music genre. (YOO Hyun-ji)
