Program Note

One day Ryosuke’s lover, who runs a restaurant in the lodge, suddenly disappeared. Ryosuke, while visiting his cancer-stricken father, finds an old notebook in his house. There is a story of a woman who had no empathy since birth and committed murder without feeling guilt. Is this a novel or someone’s confession? Is this fiction or real life? Yurigokoro is completed by weaving two stories that seem to be irrelevant. Are psychopaths born that way? Then, do they have to live as a murderer for their rest of their lives? Yurigokoro edits a novel by Mahokaru Numata, who represents Iya-mys which means an unpleasant mystery. Yurigokoro questions what human mind is. Ryosuke does not know his mind.  He believes if he wants to find his missing lover, he can kill. The provocative mystery, Yurigokoro , is also a desperate love story. A man and a woman, who realize that loving is the only way of life, live together and break up and eventually come back together. Living as people is sad and delicate because humans have limits.
