Program Note

God visits four people and tells them all human beings are about to die. Killing God is a brilliantly scripted and acted dark comedy by Spanish directors Pintó & Caye, a directorial duo on a par with the Coen Brothers.

Program Note

The film is a religious fable whose setting is a Spanish remote village. There is a couple and the husband is suspicious of his wife’s fidelity. To celebrate the New Year, his father and brother visit the couple. His father lost his wife from a disease some time ago and his brother was dumped by his girlfriend who left him for new boyfriend. The four people have their own pains and hurts. A homeless dwarf comes to them and claims him a god. Is he a real god or a crook? Does the film’s ending prove his claim or is it just a coincidence? The film puts the four characters and audiences into difficult questions. They are psychological questions about the basic human desire and religious questions about the meaning of god. The film is an interesting piece that deals with deep, philosophical questions through light black comedy. (BYUN Sung-chan)
