Program Note

Wolf Warriors II is China’s highest grossing film that captures the heroism of a former soldier from the Chinese special forces. Based on a true story that happened in 2015, Wu Jing, who won numerous martial arts contest in swordsmanship and marksmanship, wrote, directed and starred in the film himself to show action scenes using various military equipment filled with blood and sweat. In the process of returning the remains of his colleague who died in action to his family, Leng Feng ends up killing rogues. As a result, he gets dishonorable discharge and ends up in prison. Meanwhile, his lover Long Xiao Yun goes missing while on duty in Africa. After being released from prison, Leng Feng also heads to Africa in search of his lover and ends up working as a crewman on a cargo ship. However, a civil war breaks out under unstable political situation. He gets caught in a street battle where many civilians are killed because of rebel forces. With all of multinational forces evacuated, the main character struggles to save the medical team sent from China, as well as civilians. Compared to Wolf War that was about a sweepup operation of a drug cartel in China, this film invested more than the previous film. With the full support of the Chinese military expressed heroically in the film, tanks and aircraft carriers appear in the film, and some of the scenes were filmed in Kenya. With the help of the political and social situations in China, the film racked up KRW 90 billion in revenues. (PARK Sung-ho)
