Born in 1955, Kurosawa worked as an assistant director of Somai Shinji’s Sailor Suit and Machine Gun (1981) and made his directorial feature debut with Kandagawa Wars (1983). His filmography includes Cannes’ FIPRESCI Prize-winning Pulse (2000), Tokyo Sonata (2008) which won the Jury Prize at Un Certain Regard, and Journey to the Shore (2015) which won Best Director Prize in Cannes’ Un Certain Regard.
