Program Note

Two of today’s hottest young stars, Sota Fukushi and Kasumi Arimura join forces in the leading roles. This film represents the passionate and often painful emotions associated love – like a “Strobe”, powerful, bright and piercing, cutting through the heart like a knife’s “Edge”. Ninako Kinoshita, confesses her love to the most popular boy in the school, Ren Ichinose, but rejected on the spot. Unrequited love is a recurring theme in this high school drama.

HIROKI Ryuichi

Born in 1954 in Japan, Hiroki started his career as a film director with the Japanese softcore pornographic film genre of pink film. His 1994 feature film 800 Two Lap Runners was selected to Berlin International Film Festival in the same year. Another film in 2003 Vibrator was also widely seen overseas. The film won a number of awards including Best Actress for Shinobu Terajima at Tokyo International Film Festival. Kabukicho Love Hotel (2014) which was screened at the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival. Noise (2022) was selected to the competition of Udine Far East Film Festival in the same year.
