A Rich Array of Programming Featuring “The Master” LEE Byunghun Set to Light Up the 29th Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival.

The 29th Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFAN, Festival Director: SHIN Chul) has unveiled the official poster for its Actor in Focus, titled ‘The Master: LEE BYUNG HUN,’ on June 30. Alongside the poster reveal, details of the special exhibition, commemorative booklet, and limited-edition goods for the retrospective have also been announced.

The newly released poster (Designed by 6699press) captures the actor’s dignified side profile in a single striking image. Rendered in black and white, the poster highlights LEE Byunghun’s signature gravitas, symbolizing both the path he has forged and the ever-evolving future of Korean cinema of which he remains a central figure. The minimalist yet powerful visual evokes lingering resonance and heightens anticipation for the retrospective that will celebrate the multifaceted charm of ‘The Master: LEE BYUNG HUN.’

Coinciding with the festival’s opening on July 3, the Actor in Focus will also be marked by the release of a special commemorative booklet. The publication centers around the theme of “reading” and features contributions from leading film critics and journalists including KIM Dohoon, KIM Somi, KIM Hyungseok, MIN Yongjun, and HEO Namwoong.

The commemorative booklet delves into the many facets of LEE Byunghun as an actor whose brilliance transcends genres and narratives. It includes a series of in-depth essays that observe his performances from a multifaceted perspective, as well as a candid interview titled “LEE Byung hun in His Own Words.” Also featured are reflections from filmmakers and collaborators such as KIM Jeewoon, PARK Chanwook, UM Taehwa, and HWANG Donghyuk, offering rare insights into the actor’s creative world through the eyes of his peers.

Notably, the booklet will also be available in digital format. It will be released via “The JoongAng Plus,” a premium digital subscription platform by JoongAng Ilbo, starting July 3.

In parallel, a special exhibition titled The Master: LEE BYUNG HUN, His Cinematic Moments will be held on the first floor of the U-PLEX at Hyundai Department Store Jungdong Branch. The exhibition provides a multidimensional look at LEE’s filmography, highlighting his iconic roles through photographs, video clips, and personal memorabilia. Designed as a space for interaction between the actor and BIFAN audiences, the exhibition departs from conventional formats, instead offering a youthful and flexible atmosphere. Interactive sections such as a photo zone and a fan message wall allow visitors to engage directly with the retrospective. The exhibition will run from July 4 through July 13.

Exclusive merchandise for fans will also be available during the festival. These limited-edition items include ten collectible movie badges featuring characters from LEE Byunghun’s iconic films, a DIY keyring, and a commemorative clip pen. The movie badges will also be displayed as part of the special exhibition. All items will be sold exclusively on-site at the exhibition venue, located on the 1st floor of U-PLEX at Hyundai Department Store Jungdong Branch, during the festival period.

The 29th Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFAN) will be held throughout Bucheon from July 3 to July 13.
