The 29th Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFAN, Festival Director: Shin Chul) is calling for XR works to be showcased at 'Beyond Reality' starting Wednesday, January 1, 2025, at 00:00 am. Submissions will be accepted until April 15, 24:00 for works produced after January 1, 2024. Entries can be submitted through BIFAN’s submission site at https://vp.eventival.com/bifan/2025. There is no entry fee.

Submissions will be evaluated based no the composition of this year's program. The selected works will be showcased at the 29th BIFAN's ‘Beyond Reality’ exhibition. Selected works will be notified individually in May. For inquiries, please email the VR Business Team at newmedia@bifan.kr.

Since 2016, BIFAN has been the fastest Korean film festival to introduce VR (virtual reality) and XR (extended reality) content. In 2019, the festival established the 'Beyond Reality' section, and since 2020, it has co-organized the 'Digital November' with the Embassy of France in Korea. BIFAN is one of the four major XR film festivals in Asia, alongside the Kaohsiung Film Festival (Taiwan), the Sandbox Immersive Festival (China), and the Beyond the Frame Festival (Japan).

More than 30 works from 18 countries were showcased at Beyond Reality in 2024, highlighting the latest trends in XR content from around the globe. Notably, many entries demonstrated the limitless potential of emerging technologies, including AI. Highlights included the AI interactive installation "Pathways of Memory", which was selected for the XR competition at the South by Southwest (SXSW) Film Festival, and the experiential work "Mural" which realistically recreates real-life scenes using AI-powered 3D scanned Neural Radiance Fields (NeRFs) and Gaussian Splatting techniques. From XR installations exploring the impact of AI on storytelling to the results of creative workshops utilizing generative AI tools, the audience had the opportunity to experience the novel works created using AI technology in XR.

From November 29 to December 8, the 2024 Digital November showcased under the title "Fractured Realities: Memory and the Digital Frontier," Korean and French XR and interactive media content at the Bucheon Art Bunker B39. The event concluded successfully, attracting over 1,200 attendees.
