The Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival
Appoints SHIN Chul as the New Festival Director

The Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival’s organizing committee (Chairman of Organizing Committee: CHUNG Ji-young) held a special meeting yesterday (August 21) at which CEO of ShinCine Communications Co., Ltd, SHIN Chul, was appointed as the 8th festival director of BIFAN.

While newly-appointed festival director SHIN Chul was enrolled at the Department of Aesthetics at Seoul National University, he worked on the directing teams of film directors KIM Soo-Yong and CHUNG Ji-young. From there he would go on to work at the planning division for Woo-Sung Cinema and the Piccadilly Theater. He also held a position as the head of Myungbo Theater's planning department, and in 1988, he founded the film production company, ShinCine Communications Co., Ltd.

SHIN Chul got his start with films such as Happiness Does Not Come In Grades (1989) and Berlin Report (1991). From there, he went on to plan and produce a number of other films that helped to usher in the age of the producer in the world of Korean films. Such movies included The Marriage Life (1992), Mister Mama (1992), The Letter (1997), A Promise (1998), Lies (2000), and My Sassy Girl (2001). Through his work on The Fox With Nine Tails (1994) and The Gingko Bed (1996), SHIN Chul became regarded as a pioneer of using computer graphics in Korean films.

Festival Director SHIN Chul’s three-year term will begin in September of 2018.
