Program Note

Set against the world of a high school baseball team, WIND UP : THE MOVIE is a youth film about the friendship between Lee Woo-jin, a pitcher suffering from so-called Steve Blass Syndrome, which has left him unable to throw a strike, and Kwon Tae-hee, who helps him find his way back. During middle school, a batter on the opposing team collapsed after being hit by a pitch Woo-jin threw. The incident became a trauma for him, leading to the difficult situation he now faces. Then Tae-hee, a transfer student, appears in his life. Like a manager, or perhaps like an ardent fan, Tae-hee stays by Woo-jin’s side and helps him make his way back. But at some point, Tae-hee stops showing up—and the hidden story behind their relationship comes to light. Starring Jeno and Jaemin of NCT, the film is a re-edited version of a vertical short-form work, reshaped into a horizontal format. Without that prior knowledge, one could easily assume it had been made as a theatrical feature from the start; the transition feels natural.(KIM Hyung-seok)
