Program Note

After being summoned back to her childhood home to care for her bedridden father, Joan must confront the unearthed demons of her family’s past and contend with the home’s dark, malevolent energy that is both unseen and, much to her horror, seen. A triumphant feature directorial debut by Henry Chaisson, Recluse is a gothic, sound-driven thriller that blends bleak, ghostly horror with thrilling mystery. The film's dread-inducing sound design is practically its own character, which Mr. Chaisson fully exploits, demonstrating a strong grasp of atmosphere and using indescribable sounds to consistently unnerve both the film's main character and the audience.
