Program Note

Wataru discovers that his younger sister, Sara, has accidentally killed a teacher while trying to fend him off during an attempted sexual assault, and determined to protect her, he turns to the AI assistant he routinely relies on, following its guidance to stage the incident as the perfect crime; after carefully concealing evidence and skillfully manipulating the course of the investigation, the case appears to be buried as part of a separate, random serial killing case that happened to occur around the same time, but as time passes, cracks slowly begin to emerge in the flawless plan he so meticulously designed. In an age when artificial intelligence has embedded itself deeply into everyday life, the film takes a question many people have likely entertained and transforms it into a taut, gripping thriller that showcases the convenience and efficiency AI can offer while sharply examining the dangers and unforeseen consequences that arise when humans place blind trust in its judgment. Successfully sustaining a high level of suspense and genre tension throughout while engaging with the weighty themes of technological dependence, algorithmic blind faith, and moral responsibility, the film strikes a perfect balance between compelling entertainment and provocative food for thought as it makes its world premiere at the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival.
