Synopsis
After the spore virus Amora consumes the surface world, the survivors take refuge in an underground bunker ruled by the Manshin, the grand shaman. For Ida, the seventeen-year-old protagonist, shamanism is the only language that can explain the world. Her older cousin Iseo, citing a 2032 news article she has unearthed from an old tablet, insists that the Manshin's world is a lie. Ida refuses to listen.
On the day of a gut — a shamanic rite — performed for Uncle Cheolju, who has been seized by a wandering spirit, Cheolju's head bursts open. Among the worshippers dying with their hands still pressed together in prayer, Iseo and the Manshin draw their final breaths. With her last words, the Manshin confesses that her faith was wrong.
Left alone, Ida dons a hazmat suit, mounts a drone, and ascends to the surface. When she is brought down by a swarm of Cola, a vast figure appears before her.
She wakes inside the shamanic shrine she had seen in her dreams. Three gynoids receive her. It was not the gods but humans, they tell her, who set the world ablaze — and they themselves are not gods, but the will of Gaia. They ask Ida to become Gaia's momju, her bodily vessel.
Wrapped in a crimson cocoon, Ida awakens as Eve — the mother of a new humanity.
