Program Note

On Valentine's Day morning, a double-decker bus travelling through the city center suddenly explodes, leaving a trail of casualties in its wake. Retired forensic expert Lung is brought to the scene to investigate the cause of the incident. Reluctant as he is to return, he draws on years of experience and sharp instinct to dig tenaciously into the case — ultimately concluding that this was no accident, but a carefully planned bombing. As the investigation deepens, an unexpected truth and a heartbreaking story hidden beneath the wreckage of the horrific event begin to surface. Built around the familiar yet unsettling premise of an indiscriminate bombing, the film refuses to remain a simple disaster thriller. Genre maestro Herman Yau maintains relentless tension and sustained suspense while casting a sensitive eye on the wounds and human suffering left in the explosion's wake. The path to the truth invites multiple interpretations, and the weighty message that crystallizes in the film's latter half delivers a profound resonance that lingers far beyond the bounds of a conventional crime investigation drama. A finely crafted drama in which genre thrills, social observation, and a warm insight into humanity come together in perfect measure. (Martin LEE)
