Program Note

High school students Yuan and Ah-yi offer food and clothes to a homeless man they encounter, only for him to insist that they should accept him as their kung fu master. Dismissing his words, the two are surprised when he reappears before them and demonstrates his abilities by shattering a wall with his internal energy. Convinced at last, the three form an unlikely master-disciple bond and embark on rigorous martial arts training, setting the stage for an extraordinary adventure. The latest film from Giddens Ko, whose Till We Meet Again served as the opening film of the 25th Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival. Reuniting with Kai Ko and Gingle Wang, the director once again showcases the effortless chemistry that made their previous collaboration so memorable. Based on a novel Giddens Ko wrote 15 years ago, the film reveals from its opening sequence a deep affection for classic wuxia cinema, ultimately unfolding as a heartfelt tribute to the genre. Blending a coming-of-age tale with playful comedy and imaginative martial arts action, the film celebrates the spirit of wuxia while delivering pure entertainment, drawing audiences into a captivating world of martial arts fantasy.
