Program Note

This lovely family movie featuring the most well-known dog in cinema history, the vigor, wisdom and loyalty of the fine dog continues in this film. Lassie and 12-year-old Florian are best friends, but he cannot keep Lassie any longer as his father losing his job and the family has to move to a smaller house. Lassie is taken in by someone who lives in a mansion. When someone on the staff of the mansion gets greedy and tries to sell Lassie, she runs away. On hearing the news, Florian sets off to look for Lassie.

As a remake of the 1943 film of the same name, which is loved by children around the world, it is a heartwarming piece depicting Lassie’s cleverness in challenging circumstances, and Florian’s courage in deciding to find his beloved friend. For those fed up with movies boastful of their colossal scale and technical effects, this film offers fresh amusement and a lingering afterglow. For those who remember the original Lassie, it will be great to be re-acquainted with those childhood memories. (Gina KANG)
