Program Note

This is a coming of age adventure follows teenage best friends Lefa and Papi. To escape their poverty-stricken situation, they try to earn money through growing and selling marijuana. The harsh life in the townships is clear between the jokes and bizarre events.

Program Note

A report on a village in South Africa and a story of youth. Three narrators showing in and outside the film serve as guides for the audience. The stories they tell are full of murder and death, which look terrible and pessimistic, but the overall atmosphere is bewilderingly bright. Intermediate interstitial music is so dynamic and the narrator’s presence allows some distance to the story in the film. The central narrative is the story of one day before the new Year. Lepa and Pappi are old friends, Lepa chooses to go to college, while Pappi chooses to stay in town, and the fate of the two is diverged. They meet together and decided to collect the money for the last time. Lepa, who is good at botany, manufactures unique fragrant marijuana, while the skilled Pappi is in charge of distribution. The exciting atmosphere and tragic events of the new year are ironic. Just like practicing the proverb in the play that a lie is sometimes better to make someone laugh than the truth, the film keeps the vigor of the narrative form to the end, while illuminating the realistic problems.
