Tobe HOOPER

USA200655min Digi-Beta color Korean Premiere

Synopsis

Director Tobe HOOPER who helmed Texas Chainsaw Massacre  in 1974 which has become one of the must-see classics for horror movie fans demonstrates his dynamic style after a long pause. The venue is a small town in Texas. A mysterious force plunges all villagers into the fever of blood and madness. Anyone who succumbs to the force loses his or her reason and kills around people whether they are family members or neighbors.  Kevin who lost his parents in an incident 25 years ago is now back as a sheriff to fight the force and get to its bottom. HOOPER is now back to Masters of Horror after Dance of the Dead in Season 1 and describes with excellence invisible sense of horror that you know is around but do not know when it will strike by shooting and editing scenes with fast tempo. Notably the extremity of the scenes in which a husband blows off his wife with a shot gun and tries to kill his son as well, indicating the close ones around us become bloodthirsty all of a sudden makes viewers shudder. The hard-gore style that shows a men's body being torn apart abruptly to reveal bones and intestines makes viewers wonder whether it is really a TV feature film. HOOPER is known as an unlucky director who has never received comparable commendation after Texas Chainsaw Massacre  which is his debut film and the greatest masterpiece. However, this episode is dynamic enough to counter such preconception. The original is a short story published by Ambrose BIERCE under the same name in 1894 and adapted by Richard Christian MADSEN. A son of Richard MADSEN famous for the novel “I am Legend”, etc., he already co-worked with HOOPER in . Sean Patrick Flanery of the TV series Young Indiana Jones  and Dead Zone  played impressively the sheriff Kevin who was all out to keep the town in peace, overcoming his childhood trauma and Ted RAIMI who is the son of Director Sam RAIMI, actor and dramatist played an interesting role to add to the excitement of fans.
