Synopsis

Black Cat  is the 11th episode of Masters of Horror Season 2 that will gain probably the most attention and welcome support from horror movie fans. Adapty the original short story of the same name by Edgar Allen POE, Director Stuart GORDON who has been unusually keen on horror literature, Bruce CAMPBELL of Evil Dead take movie fans to the origin of horror along with Jeffrey COMBS-the most popular horror star of the 80s. At a shabby house on the street corner in a dreary city of the 19th century, a no-name novelist Eddie struggles under the weight of his profession requiring creativity. For Eddie who is suffering alcoholism, the only comfort is his young and beautiful wife. However, she is dying of tuberculosis and Eddie is getting hysterical day by day even to the extent of gouging out an eye of the black cat that his wife loves.  Black Cat is an immensely attractive story that has captivated readers everywhere. Remaking the original is the dream of any horror film directors and Combs add to the suspense of the story by modeling his character Eddie after the original author POE. In other words, the movie follows the story line of POE's Black Cat and describes how the story came into being as well. Such a simple tweak has added quite a refreshing dimension to the original story, which enables viewers to breathe the same homage that the production team pay to the original. Thick plot, description of the background looming drearily behind from beginning to end, short, yet, intense hard-gore effect, madness and masochism of Eddie suffering grueling poverty and obsession with writing good stores all ad up to the thrill of the movie. Notably, COMBS played Eddie who collapsed because of the black cat so impressively. What is funny is the ties of the production team with a black cat. It will bring smiles to the faces of the fans who already know that Director GORDON and COMBS abused a cat in the movie <Re-Animator> in which they teamed up together first time. (KIM Jong Chul)
