Program Note

The PDEA (Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency) enters a slum area of Manila to catch a drug gang boss. PDEA rookie, Nina, suspects a traitor in their ranks but no one believes her. To make matters worse, the people in the slums start attacking the police.

Program Note

The police special forces team that Nina belonged to were killed in a trap. Nina, who had been the sole survivor, was assigned to another team to take on the same task she had been assigned to before, to arrest the leader of a drug gang. The leader is located in a slum. The drug organization is located in a maze-like area where the public lives. The general public may get caught up in operations, and there is no expectation of what will happen. The source of the information is not completely trustworthy. Buy Bust reminds us of the Indonesian action movie Raid: Redemption (2011), due to the intense action in a closed space environment. Compare to Raid: Redemption , which was constructed in a step-bystep manner in a building, Buy Bust uses wider complicated space more precisely. In the second half of the hour, different actions take place in the slums, including gunfight, martial art fights and dispute between policemen, gangs and even ordinary people. Just following Nina’s action is breathtaking and frustrating. It is an excellent action film that can confirm the high level of Filipino commercial films. The acting of Anne Curtis as Nina is intensive until the end. (KIM Bong-seok)
