Program Note

After more than three decades of uned and unacknowledged human rights violations in Zimbabwe. A handful of bold creatives decided to cry out against the unjust abuse of political power in an animated spoken word piece.

Program Note

The world is a mass of contradictions, and a gift set of contradiction is presented in this work. So When is not just an accusation of Zimbabwe’s reality, it is also a sign of anger and resistance of ourselves. The film delivers the swag of resistance and complain through an endless transition of images by the intense color usage of black, white, red and simple, clear graphics. It also incorporates the rapper’s narrative and traditional melodies. “We are not slaves!” becomes such a strong message to the world. (NAH Ho-won)
