Okja, a massive animal which is created by conglomerate Mirando Corporation, has been Mija’s best friend for ten years. One day, after Okja's disappearance, Mija sets out on a rescue mission.

He graduated Yonsei University as a sociology major. Barking Dogs Never Bite (2000) is his debut film and in 2003, Memories of Murder gave him a huge success both commercially and critically. His latest film Okja (2017) was the subject of much controversy.
