Program Note
The movie is adapted from Choderlos DE LACLOS's romance novel, Les Liaisons dangereuses. Set in the end of the Joseon Dynasty, Madam Joh (LEE Mi-Suk) and Jo-Won (BAE Yong-Joon) engage in a high stakes game of seduction and love involving the Lady Sue (JEON Do-Yeon), who has remained chaste since her husband's death.

E J-yong graduated from the Korean Academy of Film Arts in 1991. Homo Videocus (1991), co-directed with Daniel H. Byun, won Best Short Narrative at the 1992 San Francisco Film Festival. His recent work, The Bacchus Lady (2016), was selected for the Competition Section at the 2016 Berlin Film Festival.
