Program Note

A village girl travels to the city to care for her rich cousin who has lost her sight. When the poor girl realizes that her cousin is receiving messages from the spirits that allow her to win the lottery, she has to choose between her cousin and her desires.

Mattie DO

Born in Los Angeles, Mattie Do returned to Vientiane, Laos in 2010 after her father who had left Laos during the communist revolution. This former makeup artist became Laos’ first, and currently only, female film director. Dearest Sister (2016) is her second feature film.
