Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival Brings in New Programmers -
KIM Bongseok, Eunyoung MO, and MOON Seok

Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (Festival Director CHOI Yongbae, hereafter  BIFAN) has brought in three new programmers - KIM Bongseok, Eunyoung MO, and MOON Seok - to help put together the 21st edition of BIFAN in 2017.

New Programmers!

Newly appointed programmer, KIM Bongseok, worked at the culture desk of The Hankyoreh, as a journalist for film magazines, CINEPHILE and CINE21, and as editor-in-chief for KT&G SangsangMadang's monthly magazine BRuT and comic book webzine Acomics. Besides his work as a film critic, KIM Bongseok has also held various positions as a critic of popular culture and renowned writer in the fields of comics, genre fiction, and pop culture.  After working as a writer for EBS movie programs 'Cinema Paradiso' and 'AniTopica', Eunyoung MO worked for Korean Film Archive Cinematheque KOFA over a nine year period as a programmer, and ran solid projects that blended the classical with the modern, and popular appeal with artistry.   This was especially true in her work with director KIM Tae-yong in the recreation of the 1930 silent film <Turning Point of the Youngsters> into a mixed performance, which received positive reviews for linking a Korean classic with the modern times.

MOON Seok - who has been appointed to program for BIFAN's comprehensive film industry program, B.I.G - worked at the culture desk of Korea Joongang Daily and later held a position as the editor-in-chief of CINE21 for approximately 15 years. MOON Seok recently worked as chief manager of Funding 21 and film acquisition for CINE LUX, a film distribution company. As one who has become well acquainted with the trends of the domestic and foreign film worlds due to his experience working for film magazines over many years, newly appointed programmer MOON Seok is expected to make a great contribution in maximizing the function of B.I.G, which is a program that will develop alongside domestic film organizations.

With the addition of the new programmers, BIFAN has formed a five person programming group headed by Ellen Y.D. KIM and Jongsuk Thomas NAM.  It is anticipated that the hiring of personnel with expertise will in turn raise audience expectations for this year's film festival.

Meanwhile, the preparations for BIFAN's 21st edition in 2017 are in full swing with the hiring of the new programmers.
