Synopsis

A Good Night Sleep for the Bad is filled with sex, violence, and loads of blood, telling a story of the miserable lives of marginal members of this society. As so vividly portrayed in the opening scene including a violent overturn of a vehicle and a blood-covered man crawling out of the wreck, an eerie sense wells up in you and persists throughout as you watch the man’s hands fumbling for money scattered around, and his eyes wild with madness and greed. Yun Seong, the main character, and two of his friends, represent the very bottom of this society tainted with violence, crime and prostitution. Trying to make ends meet while paying the debt his inmate father has owed as well as taking care of two young siblings, Yun Seong dreams of a better life unlike his friends living reckless, desperate lives. But the devil named ‘money’ won’t leave him alone; it drives him to the very edge of sanity. Money, at least in this film, is the beginning and ending of all tragedies, and the world portrayed is the hell incarnate for moneyless, connection-less young fellows. Friendship, affection, and familial love mean nothing to them. What rule the helpless, vulnerable capitalist paradigm are betrayal, threat, murder, and ruthless violence. The more one tries to win, the deeper one falls into the snare. (CHOI Eun Yeong)
