The Grandmother

Synopsis

The house of the old woman isolated from the outside world is heavy with silence. No significant events, just a series of dry, humorless daily routines fill her day, metaphorically reminding you of her tree bark-like dry skin. Minimalistic portrayal of the utter silence, wherein the sound of dripping water, of a wind blowing, can become overwhelming, resembles David Lynch"s imaginative caliber that transforms the landscape of consciousness into a visual entity. Projection of her tired, loneliness-beaten face onto an emotionless object evolves into an escape from this extreme situation, via magical fantasy. As the old woman opens the box with the mystery key, her boring, isolated life instantaneously flies into the world of a fantasy, as she leaves the suffocating earth behind and soars through the atmosphere. She revels in the warm sense of liberation while floating in the space, along with other objects now defying the gravity. (JANG Byung Won)
